Shady Debt Collectors
Are you being contacted by collectors regarding bogus debts? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning consumers that scammers are contacting consumers regarding fake debts that are supposedly payday loans from USFastCash, 500FastCash, OneClickCash, Ameriloan, United Cash Loans, AdvantageCashServices, or StarCashProcessing.
While the above companies real, they are not the party calling the consumers. Fraudsters are trying to get you to pay bogus debts. Unless you are dealing directly with one of the listed companies, do not pay the alleged debt.
The FTC has verified with the company that processes and services loans from the companies that it never sold customer or account information to debt collectors. As a result, the abusive and illegal collection tactics being taken by debt collectors seeking to recover debts owed to these companies are fraudulent. In fact, many of the consumers being contacted never even had a loan with any of the lenders!
If you receive a call from a debt collector claiming you owe money to one of these companies or to any other company, it is important to enforce your rights. You should request a validation notice, which they are required by law to provide. The validation notice will tell you what you owe and to whom. If you receive the notice and still do not recognize the debt, it is important to challenge the validity of the debt in writing. You should also monitor your credit report to verify that bogus debts are not being reported.
